Privacy & Data Use

— what we collect, what we do with it, and what we will never do —

← return to the survey

The short version

This site collects very little. You can read everything on it without giving us any personal data. If you join the Dispatch List, we store your email address and use it for one purpose only: to tell you when a new metro line opens.

We will not sell your data. We will not use it to profile you. We will not use it to target advertising at you.

Who is responsible for your data?

This website is operated by Upamanyu Acharya, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India ("we", "us"). Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 ("DPDP Act"), we are legally responsible for the personal data collected through this website — what the law calls the "data fiduciary".

Contact for all privacy matters, including grievances: [email protected].

What we collect, and why

DataWhenWhy
Your email addressOnly if you join the Dispatch ListTo send you a short notice when a new metro line or extension opens. Nothing else.
Usage analytics (pages viewed, device type, approximate city, browser)When you browse the siteTo understand how the site is used, in aggregate, so it can be improved. Collected through Google Analytics.

We do not collect your name, phone number, precise location, or payment details. If a payment feature is offered, payments are processed by Razorpay; your card and bank details go to Razorpay directly and never reach our servers.

What we will never do

In line with our obligations under the DPDP Act and the Information Technology Act, 2000, and as a binding commitment to you:

Your rights

Under the DPDP Act, you can ask to see, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you. You can also withdraw consent at any time. To do any of these, email [email protected] from the address in question. We act on deletion and withdrawal requests within 7 days.

To leave the Dispatch List, email us and we will remove your address within 7 days. Every dispatch we send also carries an unsubscribe link.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India. The Board's complaint process is still being set up under the DPDP Act, so it may not be available yet — please check the Board's own website for the current status.

How your data is stored

Dispatch List addresses are stored in a file on our server that is not reachable from the web, readable only by the server process and the administrator. Addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask for erasure, or until the list is closed, whichever comes first.

Third-party services

Some parts of the site are delivered by third parties. When your browser loads them, those parties receive standard technical data (such as your IP address) under their own privacy policies:

Children

The site is a public reference and safe for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. The Dispatch List is intended for users aged 18 or over.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the change is recorded with its date in the Log of Changes. Material changes affecting Dispatch List members are announced by email.

This policy is governed by the laws of India. Last updated: 22 July 2026.
